About the project

In January 2018 Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT) began to deliver Liberty Chain a six-month, professionally-led, Midlands-based Arts programme. The programme supported 70 young people aged 8–16,  up to 20 teachers (from within OAT and beyond) and reached over 1,200 audience members, from across the academies and wider community.

The project used key themes of British Values and citizenship; developing participants’ practical, creative and personal skills, through high quality arts and cultural activities. These activities included, a series of professional supported developmental arts workshops, teacher CPD, cultural site visits, Arts Award accreditation and Arts Award assessor training (for teachers). The project culminated in a youth-led sharing and celebration event and an open source online toolkit, developed in collaboration with all participants. The four schools taking part were Tenbury High Ormiston Academy, Packmoor Ormiston Academy, Ormiston Forge Academy and Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy. A public exhibition of select pieces was hosted at Dudley Canal and Tunnel Trust from the 18 August 2018, for six weeks.
